Over 6 weeks, you’ll build on the foundations of creative writing and develop the key skills needed to strengthen your work.
Basic Rules
You'll learn the fundamentals of storytelling. From short stories to script writing, you'll discover the key ingredients to story and how to use them to craft a great tale

You'll cover different approaches to story plot and how they work across all styles of fiction

You'll delve into the most loved and hated characters from literature, learning what makes them memorable and using them to inspire your own
Setting
You'll be encouraged to dive into worlds of your imagining, drawing on real experience to create immersive settings that jump from the page

You'll cover a range of genres, examining differences in approach, standards and reader expectation

Each week focuses on a different aspect of creative writing, combining guided teaching, practical exercises, and time to develop your own work.

Orwrite Together retreats are held at Stoke Christian Centre in Plymouth (listed on maps as Stoke Methodist Church on Devonport Road / Belmont Place).
The space offers a calm, welcoming environment away from distractions — giving you the time and headspace to focus fully on your writing.
